Time to burn

'Light Transcription (tea light)'

The drawings are created through an encircling trace around the candle as it burns, resulting in the layering of an image, such that time is condensed, and the whole life of the candle is eulogised. The light is recorded in a clockwise motion, not only commenting on how we read time but also on time as given by the Sun, stars and Coordinated Universal Time given by the NIST F-1.

'Light Transcription (birthday candle)'

The process explores our experience of how time elapses when events slow and speed up; in the moments of stillness of an otherwise flickering candle and in the moments between each successive drawing. The birthday candle itself is a mark of an annual event, the time between each can seem to drag or race by.
